Forget Palin - More McCain Incompetence

Perhaps the biggest secret of the Presidential campaign is the choice of the Vice Presidential nominee. The choice is revealed at the last minute and raises the stakes of the election game a great deal. It is often called 'the first act as President.' The selection is thought to expose strategy, temperament, and planning.

Immediately after it became clear that Senator Obama would be the Democratic nominee for President, he announced the formation of a committee to begin a search and vet potential choices. Even the meetings were shrouded in secrecy. Thirty-seven days before the decision was announced, and likely long before the decision was even made, Senator Obama had already hired former Senator Clinton advisor Patti Solis-Doyle and had staff in place. Solis-Doyle had read up on many of the potential running mates and had put together a working operation. By the time Senator Joe Biden was announced as the pick, they had already hit the ground running.

Then there is Senator McCain's selection process. About the only similarity is the secrecy. No vetting committee, in fact some wonder if there was any vetting at all. No secret meetings. In fact there is talk that some of those on the short list felt used by McCain, who unlike Obama, didn't first personally inform his potential choices that he had made another selection.

Worst of all, the nominee's staff didn't show up until four days after McCain's pick, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, had accepted the nomination at McCain's ranch in Arizona. Palin has been the Vice Presidential Nominee for over four days, and it looks like she may not have staff nor an office.

Forget that McCain only met Palin once. Forget that after weeks of derision about Obama's lack of experience, McCain picked someone with even less. Forget the questions about how prepared the Palin family are for the scrutiny they have received. Forget that McCain apparently made his choice only four days before the convention where he was to accept the nomination and both he and his VP would speak.

Sarah Palin's staff is still showing up on the first day of the national convention. Outlandish. Outrageous. If this doesn't spell 'incompetence' with the caps lock button broken, I don't know what does.

I was just going to say this in another thread. Look, if this country allows this insane man and his corrupt party to come to power, we deserve everything--and I mean EVERYTHING--that's happens to us. Period.

that too has been my argument for some time.. if we elect him then we are not allowed to ^&%$* about the next 4 years.

this idiot keeps giving us reasons not to vote for him. I wonder if they will take a look at the ratings for the RNC, how many people watched their circus?

What about Obama? At least five reasons why Obama is not even fit to run for President-(1)William Ayers, the convicted terrorist. Obama's campaign actually went to the DOJ(Department Of Justice) to either sue them, and or the FEC, to keep new information from being released to the public. This is unprecedented, and unheard of.(2)Rezko. Obama's dealings with this slum lord convicted felon are being suppessed by the media, and his campaign.(3)Rev.Wright-His association with this Anti-American racist church for over 20 years, has never been fully addressed because of the biased media, and his campaign.(4) The support of Louis Farrakhan-He has NEVER denounced the support of this Anti-American/racist/radical.(5) The support and friendship of the rapper Ludicris- Anti-American/racist/sexist who wrote a song for Obama, and the lyrics say,"We gonna elect a Black President. We gonna paint The White House Black." The bottom line? the media and his campaign, and Obama, have something to hide, Big Time. And believe me there is more.

Do you honestly think any of the associations you've listed will have absolutely anything to do with what Obama will do as President of this country? I mean, do you really think the White power structure will allow a Black/bi-racial man in office who will what...create racist policies that will undermind the White race? Does he look and act like some sort of Black nationalist? Will rap even be played during in his victory party if he wins the election? I mean damn, dude, he might be part Black, but you and I both know that his Blackness has very little--I mean very little!--to do with what type of leader he will be. He'll basically be Clinton in a darker face. He'll be liberal. He'll try to bring dignity to the presidential leadership. He'll know how to speak in complete sentences? He'll do his homework and he might just be able to undo the mess that Bush and his regime have created.
McCain and Palin on the other hand will be put in office to make sure that government doesn't work so that free market can run amok has it has been in the last eight years. Let's get real. But hey, like I say, if the Republican party is allowed to keep leading this country, then we deserve everything that happens to us.

I deleted your second post as off topic. I will delete your first post tomorrow (off topic as well) if you don't post any citations to back your accusations regarding the suppression of information by the Obama campaign.

It doesn't even have to be a good citation. Any will do.

    David--
You have presented distorted allegations which have been dealt with satisfactorily weeks, months ago. Come up with something new and relevant and we will listen. and, BTW, when you make inflammatory remarks it is good practice to cite some reputable source as a basis for them. Otherwise you are just throwing mud loaded with bias and ignorance.

Wow, so all you have against the guy your party is running against is that he (a politician) knows some shady people?

Shall we review McCain's list of associations? I'll just name one: George W. Bush, war criminal, economy destroyer, bane of the Constitution, and champion of HUGE Government. And since most of McCain's "people" are also Bush/Cheney/Rove's "people", then we CAN say that this association will determine what kind of President McCain would be.

If you bothered to read instead of simply spouting, you would have seen my explanation above.

Once again you are off topic. The subject here is McCain, VP selection, and campaign planning. If you want to bring some new information, i.e. accusations, I will allow it, BUT ONLY WITH CITATIONS.

      Of course we can.

You can voice any opinion you want. Please stay on topic.

If you wish to post rumors and accusations that no one has ever heard before and that are off-topic (like accusations of suppression of information), please give some source.

If you can't provide a source, then it is quite likely that those accusations are unfounded, and simply libelous drivel.

Personally, I don't think he should be deleted. He's off-topic but it's important that the fears of people like David be heard and taken seriously. I mean he really thinks that Obama is a secret past member of the Weatherman, and that his presidency will mean the re-incarnation of this radical group and thus the downfall of America as we know it. On the other hand, he probably McCain and Palin actually talk to God and will lead this country back on the correct path to paradise.

I don't really mind off topic that much. I just wasn't in the mood for a thread full of unsubstantiated rumors. I've had enough of that on the Bristol Palin threads.

A simple solution to "off topic" deletions is to go write an article of your own, instead of polluting a discussion already going.

Biden wasn't selected until three days before Obama's coronation. McCain made Obama's decision for him by bringing out the 3:00 am ads. So who exactly is incompetent. The one that was outmanuevered and forced into selecting a status quo candidate or the one that made a selection that was heard around the world.

Not true. Four days before the convention Obama said he had already decided on his pick. Plus, he already had staff in place, unlike McCain. And Biden doesn't need to 'get up to speed.'

Cbs news has a new story about just how detaile dthe vetting process was and its pretty complete
            http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/02/politics/horserace/entry4408656.shtml

            Some interesting highlights:

A senior official close to the John McCain's vice presidential vetting tells CBS News that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin disclosed both her husband's DWI arrest and her daughter's pregnancy during the process. In the second part of the two-stage process, Palin was asked to provide answers to 70 questions. According to the official, Palin disclosed her husband's arrest on the written form and indicated there was one thing she wanted to discuss orally – her daughter's situation.

The report on Palin was 40 pages, single-spaced and included "troopergate" and her fishing fine.

The second stage included six names. Each was asked to answer the 70 questions which included queries about marital infidelity, pornography drug use and prostitution

Palin also submitted tax returns for more than seven years and prior public disclosures including articles she had written that aren't in the public domain. She also submitted copies of speeches she has delivered, underwent a credit check and one interview with the chief vetter, A.B. Culvahouse. Her report, along with the other five were presented to campaign manager Rick Davis and to McCain - including the details on her husband's DWI and her daughter's pregnancy.

The official also noted that the campaign has released documents showing that Palin has been registered as a Republican since 1982 to refute reports that she was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party.

From what I gather from this and some other similar articles out today was that Palin went through the same proceedure that Liberman or Romney, assuming they were on the list went through. So if people were conncerned about the Palin vetting they woudl have raised the same issue about whomever McCain picked, but with someone liek Romney, pawlenty there would simple be more "stuff" to go through and pick apart.

We have to remember that "vetting" is a new thing. It really only started after 72 when Tom Eagleon was picked by McGovern and had undergone electric shock ttreatments for BiPolar disorder.

So from a campaign planning standpoint it looks like McCain applied the same vetting process to everyone he just did it in a more secretive way and was able to keep his choices for vetting out of teh media crosshairs. I thinkmtrhey intentionally leaked some info to send teh press off lookinga at peopl like Pawlentry becauuse he wasnt one of the choices.

I dont think McCain shot from the hip but rather made a calculated assesment that Palin would be a 'good fit" I am sure he wanted Liberman but the party would not have put up with it.

From a strictly Historical perspective alot of VP picks have not come from Washington. Truman comes to mind. Also historically if you look back and applied todays vetting process to past races many of our best VP's, some of whom ewent on to become president whould not have survived the vetting process we use today.

And now, to get back to the point of this article. Forget Palin, forget McCain, forget the Republican party. These people are dangerous. Vetting or no vetting. How about we vet the the last eight years of Bush and his corrupt regime and then ask ourselves 70 questions (though it shouldn't take that many) if McCain and Palin will be any different than the last administration.

FACT: MSNBC would never have a headline "Obama holes up in hotel room..."
FACT: Sarah Palin has more executive experience than the other 3 candidates combined
FACT:No one ever told Joe Biden not to take office after his wife's death--who watched the 2 little boys?
FACT: Late night talk show hosts are dissing women: first Hillary and now Sarah Palin (see Leno's mono last night)
FACT: Not all women are one issue voters, and some of us are not pro choice and still supported Hillary so now we can support Palin.
My only regret is that Geraldine Ferraro did not break the glass ceiling first, Hillary second, and now we have a 3rd chance--3rd times the charm!

Not true. As mayor she was forced to hire an administrator to run Wasilla. She has been Alaska's governor as long as Obama has been the head of his campaign. Before that, he was head of the Law Review. Besides that, the experience argument was a Republican argument. Besides that, Obama still knows how Washington and the people in it work FAR better than Sarah Palin.

Not all women are one issue voters, and some of us are not pro choice and still supported Hillary so now we can support Palin.

It still sounds like one issue: gender.

If this is McShame first Presidential act ,this is a dangerous hook that seems to have bullied the Liberal
Press. David Gregory is to facilitate the election. He will not, oh, allow me to correct myself ,he can not deliver.

MSNBC has Bowed down to the Right Wing Full Court Press. Not only have they told you(MSNBC) what
to say, they have told you who can say it. Whomever made this decision, where were they when Buchanan told a Political Analyst to shut up on National TV and Rachael Maddow was the only one who
addressed that only situation when it happen.

Now we can be sure that Palin will not be asked the hard questions as Biden was asked on M.T.P.
Sunday. David Gregory is a joke. I have three tv and they all are on all day on MSNBC but not any more.I do not think that my one vote or boycott will matter to MSNBC but it matters to me. I might as well look at Fox at least they have the courage of their convictions............ and have not BOWED DOWN
