Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday that preliminary biopsy results showed a malignant glioma in the left parietal-lobe. It was detected after Kennedy, 76, was airlifted to Boston on Saturday after having a seizure at his Cape Cod home.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Ted Kennedy is what the Democrat party stands for. I am saddened to hear about his diagnosis. My father passed away with brain cancer so I understand the affect of the tumor and the challenges that are ahead for him and his family. I will continue to pray for him and the Kennedy's as a whole.

With all of the discourse among the democratic party during the final stretch of this primary season, LET US UNITE AS A PARTY for Ted. Stop bickering and tearing each other apart whether you are for Clinton or Obama. In the end we are Democrats so let's make Ted proud!

Why would you or anyone else expect the Democrats to unite? The Democrat party is based on trading votes for government money. Except the government doesn't have any money. It is only funded by forcibly taking from the successful. There are different groups fighting over who will eat more pie. We have a black man and a woman. The black man says you are racist if you don't vote for him. The woman says you are a sexist if you don't vote for her. This is a natural rip in your coalition. And right now, your party is being played, one special interest group (women) against another special interest group (a minority male). It is a good strategy to pit one coalition against the other. And that is what is being done....Do you like being played?

The desire to receive others wealth using the government as a conduit is an act of greed. While I am personally not materially wealthy, I would never consider asking others to help me. It is not their job or responsibilty. It is the responsibility of ME. After that comes my family, then my Church, and then my community. I do not want your car or your woman or your money, why do you want mine? My money, that is! It's greed. Admit it. Greed is wanting something you know you do not deserve.

Greed is an inherent part of the Democrat being. Greed is all Democrats have in common. You are all fighting over a slice of pie that belongs to the pie maker, not you.

To Michael Gaff, who posted previously -- all I can say is "Karma."

To Senator Kennedy, I would say "thank you!"

His service is awe inspiring, his impact lasting. Best wishes to him and his family at this challenging time.

I'm sorry to hear that Edward Kennedy or anyone has a brain tumor! He has been a liberal drunk womanizing career politician who's family has helped ruin America with their unconstitutional socialist agenda! If he has to leave the Senate because of his illness it will be good for our Republic! Hope you get better, but you need to go!

MY HEART GOES OUT TO SENATOR KENNEDY, HE BELONGS TO A VAST LEGACY OF UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS WHOM I RESPECT WITH ALL MY HEART.

I LIVE IN PUERTO RICO, AND I AM SURE THAT ALL THE CITIZENS IN PR HAVE HIM IN THEIR PRAYERS.

THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT I THINK DON'T THINK DESERVE SO MUCH LOSS AND PAIN.

I PERSONALLY WISH YOU HEALTH, AND I WILL PRAY A ROSARY FOR YOUR HEALTH.

First, everyone acts like he's dead so save the eulogies for later. I never liked his politics as well as his character, I always thought he was anointed to his position because of his family pedigree. Besides being a boozer and womanizer; the Chappaquiddick incident will always question his character as a man. To this day, he has never adequately answered why he left Mary Jo Kopechne for dead under the bridge.

Yes, he's done some good things in Congress; but, his poor character outweighs the positive

Exactly poor character is one noone forgets. He never had integrity and left a woman to die and never stepped up to the plate. That is truly unforgivable and I was a very young woman and remember I read through the crap-oh-la!

Thank you "TheJonesGirl" for your comment about Laura Bush!

Compared to the number of people George Bush has murdered in Iraq, Senator Kennedy looks like a saint.

Yes, he made a huge mistake many years ago, and I am sure suffers with it daily. Maybe he did get special treatment, but we did not investigate the incident, so who knows. His work in The Senate has outweighed that one mistake. We should all remember how hard he has worked for the country and stop worrying about whether he was a "boozer"! If any one of us suffered through the tragedy and bore the responsibility for our entire family as he has, we would probably have some bad habits too. How many of us would give our entire lives in service to others if we had the Kennedy fortune?!?

Here is a link about the Laura Bush tragedy Trying to equate Laura Bush's accident to what Ted Kennedy did is a very, very, far stretch. Ted Kennedy was drunk and left the scene to save his political ***. Being a Kennedy, he knew he would get away with it. With that being said, has a Christian my prayers are with Ted Kennedy.

I have disagreed with Sen. Kennedy on most of his politics but have always admired the vigor with which he pushed for his objectives. Being the same age as Ted, I wish him many, many more years of joyful and fruitful happiness. The prayers of an old Methodist to an old Catholic is extended and aimed toward remission of the tumor. I have to agree with Joe, JA, and Gail, Ted Kennedy did nothing for the hard working American other than help disperse our hard earned money to the government funded socialist programs. He helped ruin Social Security and is in the process of giving the country away to the illegals. He is soon to meet his maker and he has a lot of explaining to do. That would be one speech I would like to hear.

In the 1st page of the article on Sen. Kennedys article, it states that it is a grim diagnosis. UNTRUE. My mother, Beverly Harrington Jones; a fellow Irish descendant, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in May of 2006. On the 15th of May of that year she had surgery on her right paretal-lobe. She under went the rigors of the radiation and chemotherapy under the guidance of Dr. Forage of the Western Brain and Spinal Institute in Las Vegas, Nv., and the care of her sister-in-law Geraldine Reardon of Maryland. As of the 15th of May 2008, Dr. Forage said that she was doing quite well. She lives alone, still drives, contributes to the community and attends church. There is a slight loss of short memory, but other than that; she is quite fine.

                          To scottjones:

I'm truly happy for your mother, but Kennedy's tumor is inoperable, which makes his prognosis more ominous than your mom's. Of course there are experimental treatments available, including some that attempt to cut off the tumor's blood supply...and we can all pray they offer the Senator more time. But to state that the Senator's diagnosis is not grim simply isn't true.

i am very happy for your mom, but my husband wass diagnosed with the same type of tumor as ted kennedy, & after 2 surgeries & all treatments available to him, it was only a few short months that he lost all moter skills & bodily functions. then his memory loss was a bit more than slight, being that he recognized no one & had no clue who it was beside his bed for the last few months of his life. After 25 years of marriage you can only imagine the pain, not onlythat he was going through ,but his whole family had to endure. so as I said I amhappy for your Mom but please don't judge each case as being the same. As for Ted's case ,well no matter what he has done in the past , I Hate to see anyone go through the pain & suffering that my husband & children went through during his illness

He has Cancer! This disease does not discriminate between liberal and conservative, Democrat or Republican. To think otherwise is petty.

After Pres Reagan got shot, he asked his doctors in the operating room if they were Republicans or Democrats. They responded by saying "Today, we're Americans."

It's that simple. People get cancer everyday, my father included (who died nearly 3 years ago) Sen Kennedy is in the public eye - that's the only difference.

I believe what goes around comes around. We've truthfully observed this SOB for years soak up our consolences - what about his gross negligence with a woman he left to die in a pond after his negligence? I've been a great advocate of the Kennedy's and could care less about how much he thinks he has improved his image to those of us who don't believe him for 1 split second.

Deal with it Ted - and leave something for the American people who all knew you were NEVER material that could stand in your brother/s shoes. Certainly JFK had his liasions yet he never turned his back on America, his government, or us. Robert was in the shadow and made his statement however tragic.

You, Ted, have been left to live your part to make ammends. I doubt God will ever bless your graces.

Sorry but that is truly a believe of many of us --- some not ever going to speak out -- I did and am I ever relieved.

Step up to the plate now and do the right thing --- leave a legacy (although I doubt we can erase your past indiscresions) oppss sp - purposely.

                                Love you 2

SOB? and what have you done lately to help those who have little voice in our country? What truly humane stances have you taken that have benefited others? I'm sure Senator Kennedy has his personal demons, but his true moral character, his concern for his fellow human beings, has been an inspiration.

Our prayers and hopes are extended to Sen. Kennedy that a speedy remission of the tumor is achieved. I am the same age as 'Ted' and from an old Methodist to an old Catholic, I hope we see many, many more joyful and productive years!

REGARDLESS OF HOW U FEEL ABOUT THE POLITICS INVOLVED, THIS IS A HORRIBLE THING. THE PROGNOSIS IS GREAT WITH MY MOM, BUT IT SEEMS TO BE QUITE RARE. CANCER DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE. POLITICS, KOPECHNE; WHICH WE ALL HAVE INTENSE FEELINGS ABOUT; DOES NOT MATTER. STICK TO THE MATTER INVOLVED. THE MEDICAL SCIENCE OF THE CANCER AND THE EXPERIENCES WE HAVE WITH IT FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE FAMILY. STOP SAYING, KARMA, KOPECHNE, ETC. AT THIS POINT IT DOESNT MATTER. AS ONE HUMAN TO ANOTHER, COMPASSION IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE TOOL WE HAVE NOW.

To say a brain tumor is not a grim diagnosis is completely untrue. Before a malignant tumor kills you it will destroy your intellect, impair your physical abilities and alter who you are basically. I know, I have a malignant glioma of the right parietal lobe. I haven't been able to work due to the memory problems, inability to do more than 1 thing at a time, the extreme fatigue and strenuous mental and physical effort simple things now require. I can't imagine he will be able to continue his political career during the treatments and he will be different when all is done. It is a horrible disease, few can imagine the destruction it brings.

Our nation sheds tears for yet another Kennedy. No American has taken to heart John Kennedy's immortal words, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country", more than Ted Kennedy. His statesmanship and tenacity have earned him the love and respect of fellow legislators, world leaders, and commoners alike. Senator Kennedy, may God be merciful in your hour of need.

Senator Kennedy is an American icon, whether you agree with his politics or not. He is the last of the Kennedy brothers from that great generation. He's held his senate seat since 1962, which is amazing, when you think about it! He has been the voice for women, gays, blacks and all other minorities, pleading for their rights, standing up against bigotry and discrimination. He has been the father figure to all his nephews and nieces, the children of John and Bobby. He has walked his nieces down the aisle at their weddings and mentored all the Kennedys of the next generation as they went into public service.
He stood on that boat with Caroline as the ashes of John Kennedy, Jr were scattered in the Atlantic. We all wept together with them that day.

He has made his late brothers proud, his family proud, his country proud.

God bless you, Ted. We're praying for you.

He's a eastern liberal who's family's money kept him out of jail for murder. Let Ossama Bamma weep for him.

"Judge not lest ye be judged."

For those people with such malice in their hearts that they cannot feel compassion for a man with a brain tumor and can only bring up his worst lifetime mistake, I hope your glass house is stone-proof. If anything, Ted Kennedy has more than atoned for a fatal error in judgement by working hard to give people health insurance, better education, housing, justice, and ensuring their basic civil and human rights. This is from a man who lost three brothers to America, one in wartime service, one in service to end poverty, one in service as leader of the free world. To Those who criticize based on an incident 40 years ago, I would ask you to tell us what you have done to make this country a better place, and to ensure its people of better quality of life than Ted Kennedy. For those who can criticize, no doubt most supported a man who you envision as a beer drinking buddy, who fabricated a war for profit that sent 1000s to their young graves, and may have even orchestrated the 911 event that inspired it. Good job!
My thoughts and prayers to the Kennedy Family at this terrible time. May God let us have Ted Kennedy just a while longer as we need him and cannot fathom the idea of his not being here.

LifetimeDem, I couldn't have said it better. I find it sad that so many people are so narrow minded. Yes, Senator Kennedy made a horrible mistake but he has more than made up for it. He has dedicated his life to the service of this country and to helping those who would otherwise be ignored and who could not help themselves. He has been a rock for his family through some unbearably painful times and did his family proud as the patriarch of the Kennedy clan after his father's death. That's a heavy burden for the youngest son in the family to bear and I admire both his political work and his personal strength. He has buried his parents, all of his siblings and even neices and nephews. I pray that he is able to recover and conitnue his work. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this very difficult time. I would ask that others show some compassion and put aside their bitterness and spite.
